A NATION UNDER CONSTRUCTION: DESIGNING_SOUTHAFRICA/BRITISH COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE

DESIGNING_SOUTHAFRICA (D_ZA) was established to record and investigate the impact of mega-events, from the perspectives of architecture and design, on their host cities and began with the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Bringing the project to London and with support from the British Council and its International Architecture & Design Showcase, DESIGNING_SOUTHAFRICA will present the exhibition 'A Nation Under Construction'

Through photographs and moving image Designing_Southafrica will explore social and urban progression in contemporary South African cities since the country hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2010. Curated by Zahira Asmal, founder of Designing_Southafrica, the exhibition includes stills from the award-winning short film 'Litshe Le Golide' (Concrete from Gold) by Guy Adam Ailion and Andrew Bell, reportage images by Leon Krige, Bruce Sutherland and others, and a narrative inspired by the notion of 'Design. A Better Life for All'.

The exhibition coincides with the launch of the book 'Reflections & Opportunities: Design, Cities and the World Cup' and we will be participating in talks and events around the LFA and look forward to seeing you! For further information please visit www.designingsouthafrica.com
