NLA & The Building Centre are transforming South Crescent in Store Street with a playful installation that will test ideas for the future use of this new public space in central London. Oculus, designed by Roz Barr Architects and engineers Ramboll, will use 7,000 hessian sand-bags to turn the Crescent into a temporary urban park. A newly crafted surface and series of spaces will be formed with seating and an amphitheatre topped by a suspended pool of water. It will be a space to rest, recharge and play, with a programme of free events - tai-chi, soap-box talks and performances.
Oculus is sponsored by Derwent London and supported by the London Borough of Camden and using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Free talks and tai chi lessons are part of the Oculus programme.
