Sponge-scraper City

Come and see the Sponge-scraper!

John Robertson Architects (JRA) invites you into our Southwark studio to a special exhibition of Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece - St Bride’s Church.

To celebrate the 2012 Festival, JRA will be creating a scale model of this remarkable building entirely from sponge cake. Designed to the highest specification, the cake will be fully clad in high performance icing and come with a Certificated CREEAM assessment.

The model and an accompanying exhibition of the history of St Bride's Church, will support the INSPIRE! Appeal - launched in March 2012 to fund the urgent repair and restoration of St Bride's tiered spire, said to have been the inspiration for the design of modern wedding cake.

JRA will be serving sponge cake and tea to visitors with all money raised donated to the INSPIRE! Appeal. There will be quizzes taking place all weekend for both children and adults, and a raffle with the top prize being a tour of St Bride's.

Paul Finch, the Chairman of the INSPIRE! Working Group and Deputy Chairman of the Design Council, will be giving a brief talk on why St Bride's should be preserved on Saturday 23rd June at 4pm.

Activities for children will include talks on the Sir Christopher Wren by Dr. Duncan Philip Connors, on both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 11am.
